3 Phases of Building a Funnel

Did you know that when it comes down to it, there are only 3 steps to building a successful evergreen funnel.

And one of those steps is actually a completely crucial secret step, that most people don’t know about…

One that cannot be skipped (not if you want your funnel to work anyway!)

It starts with a “W”… and it could be the one thing stopping your funnel from really taking off.

Today I’m sharing with you the three stages of building a successful funnel, because I think most people seem to think there’s two.

The first stage is to build it, and then the second stage is to scale it, sit back & wait for the dollars to role in.

But what a lot of people don’t realize is there is a middle stage between that.

And when you skip that stage, that’s often why your funnels don’t end up working as well as they could.

Or, if you don’t realize that stage exists, you might think that your funnel, which is actually perfectly fine, and  only weeks away from being crazy profitable, isn’t working.

And you might ditch it way too soon.

So, I wanted to share with you what those three stages were and how you can get the most out of each stage so you can create your own profitable funnel as well.

How to build a funnel – The build it phase

The first step is simply creating it.

That’s where you’re writing emails & you’re putting things into automations.

You’re having lots of fun with post-it notes and whiteboards, and mapping stuff out.

And feeling super clever and super proud of yourself with this amazing funnel that you scoped out and then you built and you created.

How to build a funnel – The Waiting Phase

Now, the second phase is the waiting phase.

When you’re creating funnels, the waiting phase is a killer, because it involves one thing, patience.

And a lot of people don’t have any, or they don’t want to.

They feel like everything on the internet should be this amazing quick fix.

But the thing is, once you have set up your funnel and as you are starting to scale it and you’re starting to run traffic through it, there is a little bit of an anticlimactic lull.

And whether it’s a couple of weeks or even a couple of months, there’s just this little period where you are waiting for the momentum to kick in.

You’re doing all the activities to create that momentum.

But a lot of things take a little bit of time.

So meanwhile, the numbers are trickling through, the sales are trickling through.

But you’re like, “I’ve done this work, where are my millions of dollars worth of sales? I want it to carry from zero to here now.”

And that’s not how it works.

And anyone who tells you it is, is frankly a liar.

It takes a little bit of time.

And that little bit of time feels like forever.

But once you’re out the other side of it, you’re like, “Oh my gosh, I’m so glad that I did that. I’m so glad that I didn’t chuck it all in. I’m so glad that I gave it that little bit of time.”

That time can feel like failure for a lot of people, because we are such a quick fix society and we want instant results.

But, it’s crucial, it is important, and it is a fantastic lesson in patience for all of us.

But if you are able to be patient for those couple of weeks while you’re waiting for the wheels to start turning as fast as you want them to be, then you move on to phase three.

How to build a funnel – The Scale Phase

And phase three is scale.

Now, phase three is all about making sure that you have the systems in place and the team in place to be able to grow your funnel, your program, your offers, to wherever you want it to be.

So, you’ve built it & you’ve tested it.

You’ve got the momentum going, which allows you a bit of extra budget, a bit of extra time as well, to then go into the scale phase, which is where you go, “All right, I’m now going to take this from a few sales a week to stratospheric,”.

I’ve seen it happen too many times, that people can create something and they get to this middle phase and they kind of go, “Ah, it’s not working.”

And then they’ll either go and try and rebuild it or they’ll just give up completely.

Or they’ve got a launch coming up so they’re like, “Ah, scrap it, obviously funnels don’t work for me.”

And then they go off and they do their launch and they forget about it.

And the problem is, they were probably a few weeks away from having an amazing, successful funnel.

So, how do you know if you are in that phase, that wait phase?

How do you know if your funnel is going to work, is going to jump over to the third phase if you’re set up correctly?

Well it all comes down to knowing your numbers.

It comes down to knowing that you’ve set it up in a way that’s proven.

Knowing that you’ve tested your key components.

But also knowing what your benchmark should be.

And one of the things I love about funnels, it’s not guess work.

If you sit down, you look at your funnel, you look at the numbers for each section on your funnel.

There’s only a few key ones that you need to be keeping track off.

And you can go, “Yep, they are all hitting the right things that I want them to hit.”

Then you can relax, you can be in that phase two.

Work on your patience or whatever it is that you need to do.

But know that you’re going to come out the other side, because you’ve done the right work in phase one.

And as I said, phase two, it’s that little bit of time it takes for the work that you’ve done for it all to catch up, and for the rewards to come through.
